Introducing ElimuTech Digital Innovation Club (EDIC)
In a world shaped by technology, access to digital skills is no longer optional. It is foundational. The ElimuTech Digital Innovation Club, EDIC, is a structured school based initiative designed to equip secondary school students in Tanzania with practical digital competencies, creative problem solving skills, and innovation capacity.
EDIC is coordinated by Arusha Node Marie and implemented in collaboration with Chanya Change, which provides trained facilitators and ensures quality delivery across partner schools. Through structured weekly sessions, hands on learning, and project based activities, the program builds a generation of confident digital users and creators.
Why EDIC Matters
Many students complete secondary education with limited exposure to practical computer use, coding, internet safety, and digital entrepreneurship. This gap restricts their academic performance, employability, and participation in the digital economy.
EDIC responds directly to this challenge by:

Where EDIC Is Implemented
Currently, EDIC operates in four secondary schools in the Arusha Region:
- Amsha Secondary School
- Kitefu Secondary School
- Madiira Secondary School
- Akeri Secondary School
Each school hosts a Digital Innovation Club where students participate in structured weekly training sessions guided by facilitators from Chanya Change.
What Students Learn
EDIC follows a carefully designed 10 month learning journey that progresses from foundational skills to real world application.
1. Computer Literacy
Students learn hardware identification, operating systems, file management, typing skills, and safe computer use.
2. Internet Use and Online Safety
Training covers search engines, email communication, cybersecurity basics, and digital ethics.
3. Introduction to Coding
Students are introduced to logical thinking and block based programming tools such as Scratch, enabling them to create simple animations and mini projects.
4. Digital Creativity and Innovation
Learners explore graphic design, digital storytelling, and basic digital entrepreneurship concepts using accessible tools.
5. No Code Web Development
Students build simple websites for their schools using platforms such as Google Sites or Wix, learning how the web functions in practice.
6. Career Awareness and Digital Pathways
Mentorship sessions, goal setting exercises, and exposure to digital career opportunities help students envision their future.
7. Design Thinking and Problem Solving
Students apply human centered design principles to identify and address real community challenges using technology.
8. Mini Digital Projects
Teams develop and present digital solutions, strengthening collaboration, communication, and confidence.
9. Employability Skills
Students learn CV writing, digital portfolio creation, and freelancing awareness to enhance job readiness.
10. Evaluation and Showcase
The year concludes with exhibitions, project presentations, and certificate awards, celebrating student achievement and growth.
The Role of Chanya Change
Chanya Change plays a critical implementation role by:
- Deploying trained facilitators to partner schools
- Supervising weekly training sessions
- Ensuring consistent and quality delivery
- Mentoring students throughout their digital journey
- Supporting monitoring and evaluation processes
Through this facilitation model, EDIC maintains structured, accountable, and impact driven delivery.

EDIC is designed as a scalable model. While currently focused on secondary schools, the long term vision includes expansion to additional schools and outreach to out of school youth.
